Overview

RISC adds to its stable of mobile applications with the release of the RISC VTA Student App 1.0.  The RISC Student App takes critical features from the VTA Learner and VTA Badge systems and combines them into a simple, native app for Android and iOS.

RISC Student App – QR Display

One of the key features of the Student App is the displaying of a QR code unique to the student.  Similar to Apps like FlashSeats used to access concerts and sporting events, the QR code can be used as a ‘mobile boarding pass’ for entry into training sessions.

An instructor can scan the students QR code using the RISC VTA Instructor App to record their attendance in a training session without having to collect sign-in sheets or manually enter history records into the RISC Virtual Training Assistant LMS.

During the scanning process, the instructor can choose to override scheduling conflicts, prerequisites and even change the students enrollment status from Waitlist or Cancelled to Attend.

In addition to displaying a students QR code, the Student App also allows a student to manage their schedule of upcoming training.  This includes displaying the student’s current schedule, expanding session details and even opening or downloading the Course and Session documents directly from their mobile device.

So, what is next for VTA Apps?

RISC has two more mobile development initiatives underway in the early part of 2016.  First is the release of the VTA Supervisor App designed to help supervisors manage the training of their employees.  This includes enrollment into training session and even the completion of performance checklists for students directly from their mobile device while observing or performing the assessment.

The second initiative already underway is the 2.0 release of the Student App to further expand the functionality to include the ability to browse and enroll in training sessions, complete tests and evaluations, search the course catalog, for other students and for blog articles.
