Internet Explorer 8 Support Ending for VTA

With the next version of RISC’s Virtual Training Assistant (VTA), Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8) will no longer be supported. Version 8.0 of the VTA system will be available in the first quarter of 2016. IE 8 will not be a supported browser with this new version of VTA. This is consistent with Microsoft’s plan for no longer supporting IE 8 effective January 12, 2016. 

After that date, Microsoft will only provide security updates and technical support for the most current version of Internet Explorer available for your operating system.

We are ending IE 8 support for the following reasons:

1. Security – Numerous vulnerabilities have been discovered in IE 8. With Microsoft ending support for it, new vulnerabilities will go unpatched.
2. Web standards: IE 8 was released in 2009 and does not support the standards on which modern web sites and apps are built.

We recommend that you upgrade to the most current browser supported by Microsoft for your operating system. VTA Version 8.0 may not be compatible with IE 8. RISC will not release any updates to resolve IE 8 specific issues and will not resolve any bugs or errors specific to IE 8.

Vince Obrzut

Vince Obrzut is the vice-president and co-founder of RISC, Inc. He works closely with customers to find software solutions to training management problems. His responsibilities include customer support/satisfaction, product direction and new technologies. He received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in computer sciences and mathematics from Loyola University of Chicago in 1983. Upon graduation, Mr. Obrzut worked for Loyola as the Information Center Analyst responsible for integrating Personal Computers and Fourth-Generation languages into Loyola’s Medical Center. He has also worked as a systems consultant for a medium sized computer consulting company. His assignments included feasibility studies for new projects, database design, system implementation and project management.
